Best place to stay along the North Coast area of Honduras

This was my 9th trip to Honduras, and my 8th trip to Villas Pico Bonito. This year we brought our 9 year old grandson. We spent 5 days at Villas Pico Bonito and 4 days on the island of Roatan. Our grandson says “Staying at Villas Pico Bonito was the best part of the trip”. We met several people while on Roatan who had never visited the mainland of Honduras, mostly commenting on violence or safety concerns. I have never felt unsafe visiting the mainland of Honduras and find the people to be kind and friendly. You are missing out on a wonderful vacation if you skip the mainland, and staying here is a great experience. The cabins are clean and well kept with great views. The grounds are beautiful and surrounded by jungle mountains and waterfalls. The staff is great and always willing to help in any way, including meal choice and advice on activities in the area. I have found the La Ceiba area to have nice shops with great prices (in most cases half the cost of the same products on the islands). Also activities near VPB are reasonably priced and easy to get to (hiking, zip-line, rafting, horseback riding, snorkeling day trips, etc.) I highly recommend VPB to anyone looking for a relaxing lodge surrounded by the jungle.
